There are moments for all of us over 40 that make us know in real terms that the term "middle age" or more....Now belong to us. Asheville Bed and Breakfast launches Plant-a-Thon morning has provided me with the Ah-ha moment in every single joint in my body. Why, save the pharmaceutical relief of ibuprophen, I would be hobbling about after the "planting of the flowers saga." Yesterday, here at the inn, all the little seeds sown in April of this year- now fully developed into fledgling plants- found their final resting place nestled in the ground here At Cumberland Falls Bed and Breakfast Inn. In about 2 more weeks, I am hopeful to have a "feast for the eyes" resplendent in the beauty from flowers of all kinds. We have zinnias (both the tall red ones and the lilliputian small ones), cosmos (double and single, both orange and pink), marigolds, strategically placed about to dissuade all the bugs that might otherwise ingest these yet small plants and more. This is not even to mention the dreaded snails and slugs. Why, it's a jungle out there. We have moon flowers which open white and bright in moonlight, beginning to climb on our trellis currently inhabited by both honeysuckle, carolina jasmine and a climbing hydrangea.
There are 3 weddings currently scheduled for the gardens here At Cumberland Falls Bed and Breakfast Inn and believe me when I tell you that backdrop will be the stuff dreams are made of; a feast for the eyes.
It will be at that moment that I will once again talk myself into putting those little seeds in the pots in April of next year....having sworn off that activity for life just yesterday in the full and certain knowledge that I will be back on my knees again putting them in. Gardeners are very scary people.
