Labor Day is Monday, September 5 this year. Our Asheville NC Bed and Breakfast Invites you to a Labor Day Concert that will be held in Pack Park at 7:00 p.m.
The first celebration of Labor Day in the United States of America was in 1894 following the Pullman strike which resulted in the deaths of several of their membership at the hands of both the United States military and U.S. Marshall's. In an effort to stave off further conflict, six days after the end of the strike President Grover Cleveland and Congress hurriedly pushed this law through. Currently it is a federal holiday in every state in the United States, D.C. and all U.S. territories as a testament to the contribution of labor in the United States. As a side note, it is also recognized traditionally as the last weekend of Summer.
No matter what meaning this holiday brings to you, we hope you will join us at Pack Park. Your choice, you can either choose reserve seating for $20 with a bird's eye view of the orchestra and celebration or feel free to bring a blanket or lawn chair to enjoy soloists from Lyric Opera and the magic of Daniel Meyer, conductor and curl up to listen to some fine music as we all enjoy summer's last hurrah!
